FAQ

Kendo

Kendo is the Japanese form of fencing using bamboo swords.  The art of the sword is a very important piece of culture that thrives into modern day through the practice of kendo, iaido and other Japanese sword arts.

We practice the choreographed forms, called kata, as well as practicing striking the three primary target areas: the head (men), forearm (kote), and torso (do).  These practices prepare us for sparing (shiai) while wearing protective armor (bogu).  Occasionally the sensei of a neighboring kendo group, Hokkyokusei of Rochester, MN, comes and teaches us to supplement our regular instruction.

To find out more about kendo and where to find a kendo dojo in your hometown area, visit the All US Kendo Federation webpage.
